One of the TAs in 105 thought it would be better to do half online and half f2f each week. Or another suggestion was half the semester students are f2f and the other half online. What do you guys think?
I am a little hesitant about switching the delivery from one to another in the middle of the term, myself. I would be open to trying it, though. I do like the idea of switching format from week to week. It gives students time to fall into the pattern rather a big switch all of a sudden from one format to the next.
Beth, is the reason why the TAs are suggesting this alternative because they feel that the switching formats from week to week is just not working? On paper it looks good, but in practice it might be too confusing. Pros and Cons to all these options I guess.
In my two classes, TAs do "get" to meet with their lab students every week, which seems to help ground them in their role as teacher. Maybe that is what the 105 TA is talking about. One could feel a little lost during her/his students' online week.
With the model I am using (two week modules in which all students meet F2F to do the same activity in alternate weeks - and all students do another online activity during the module) there is no way I could consider switching F2F and online halfway through the semester.
I trust the TAs
